Poetry Reading with Lee Posna

  • The Head & The Hand Books 2644-48 Coral Street Philadelphia United States (map)

Lee Posna recently returned to the tristate area after 14 years away, mostly spent in New Zealand. He reads and writes, and currently works as a caregiver to elders suffering from Alzheimer's. Three books he's recently enjoyed are: Dreams and Stones by Magdalena Tulli, Black Sun by Julia Kristeva, and Unforgiving Years by Victor Serge. Three Americans he's recently admired include: Chuck Murphy, Uncle Michael (Schleifer), and Rebecca Ariel Porte of the Brooklyn Institute of Social Research (which has a branch in Philadelphia).  He holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and is an editor of The Winter Anthology. His poetry chapbook, The Arboretum, was published by Compound Press.

Lee will be reading from his recently completed manuscript Narcissus; or, Echo, a multiform work that includes prose pieces, dramatic monologues, poems, and dialogues. These pieces form a constellation of subject positions, including Echo's, all contained within the supra-subject, Narcissus. The conceptual framework of the book comes from Kristeva's development of Freud's work on narcissism, which is largely synonymous with melancholy. The dialogues will be read with the assistance of H&H’s own Claire Moncla.
